Home Business Opportunities

If You Are Hoping To Start Your Own Online Business and Escape From The 9-5 Rat Race, work at your own pace, or maybe you’re just checking for opportunities. The web can be full of good and bad options.

The first thing a home-based business site, or similar, does is try to get you to identify with them. It will be full of the ‘I was like you, working hard...’ and so on. It will try to sell the idea to you based on the stories of various people who now sit at home all day and just count the cash as it rolls in- but do these online businesses actually work?

People are constantly searching the Internet for a way to make extra money, or maybe find a full-time job they can work from home. On top of this, 2007 and 2008 were tough years for many people personally with the credit crunch taking away jobs, homes and even a few banks.

Home-based businesses, network marketing jobs and MLM(sometimes compared to Ponzi schemes), are prolific on the internet because of the automated responder revolution. Basically, these sites are ‘set and forget’ web pages that generate leads. You might get rich, but the chances are slim. You might find a viable income; the chances are a little better. You might also waste some cash and feel like you’ve done something stupid; the chances of this are pretty high.

MLM (Multi-Level Marketing)
Definition via www.wikipedia.org

Multi-level marketing (MLM), also known as Network Marketing, is a business-distribution model that allows a parent company to market its products directly to consumers by means of relationship referrals and direct selling.

Independent, unsalaried salespeople of multi-level marketing, referred to as distributors (or associates, independent business owners, dealers, franchise owners, sales consultants, consultants, independent agents, etc.), represent the parent company and are awarded a commission based upon the volume of product sold through each of their independent businesses (organizations).

Independent distributors develop their organizations by either building an active customer base, who buy direct from the parent company, or by recruiting a downline of independent distributors who also build a customer base, thereby expanding the overall organization. Additionally, distributors can also earn a profit by retailing products they purchased from the parent company at wholesale price.

Distributors earn a commission based on the sales efforts of their organization, which includes their independent sale efforts as well as the leveraged sales efforts of their downline. This arrangement is similar to franchise arrangements where royalties are paid from the sales of individual franchise operations to the franchisor as well as to an area or region manager.

Commissions are paid to multi-level marketing distributors according to the company’s compensation plan. There can be multiple levels of people receiving royalties from one person's sales.

MLM relies on people to bring their contacts to the company. The first thing you are asked to do (or often suggested) is to sell to all of your family, friends and anyone else you might know. For some people this is a real problem, although there aren’t many positions in sales where you aren’t expected to bring an immediate list of people to sell to.

MLM can work really well for some people. And, they are often people who would have never had the opportunity to earn the sort of income they suddenly find themselves earning. On the other hand, some people fail miserably and feel it was a total waste of their time. If it works out for you, expect to earn a realistic salary of somewhere between the average income to anywhere up to an executive level. That’s good money for people who may have been struggling for work.
